What is radial symmetry
 The petals of a flower, the rays of a star fish, the spokes of a bicycle wheel, and the form of a mandala, are examples of radial symmetry. Radial symmetry occurs in many places in nature and in man-made art and technology, and imparts "balance" to designs. Designs that use radial symmetry can be divided equally at any angle, and there is unity of color, value and space.
Principles:
o Unity makes the separate parts of an image
appear as a cohesive composition by making
them look as though they belong together.
o Emphasis, or Focal Point, is a sense of
prominence given to something in a
composition.
o Scale, or Proportion, refers to size and size
relationships among elements in a composition.
o Balance is the distribution of visual weight
within a composition.
o Rhythm refers to a sense of movement or
direction created by repeated or similar hues,
value, and shape in a composition.
Artists often keep elements separate using a grid to achieve unity. Think of printed media, magazines, books, newspapers, even web pages, which all use a grid to organize information. Hue, value, positive and negative space, and shape are then added to the mix to create an appealing and effective layout. Designs that use the grid to achieve unity are organized by the grid but rely on hue, value and shape for balance. \\\ |

History Snippet: Sir John Baskerville, founder of the font 'Baskerville', had his first job in engraving tombstones as a calligrapher at age seventeen.
After amassing a fortune in the japanning trade, he took up printing and typefounding as a hobby.
Sir Baskerville invented the technique of 'hot-pressing', where moisture is removed from freshly printed paper via compression between heated copper plates, achieving a smooth surface. The technique of hot-pressing is used in paper mills till today. \\\
